.
It started innocently enough – the kids got a new tablet.
But the old one still worked. Being a dad, I couldn't just throw out the old one!
Sure, it wasn’t the fastest, so gaming and movies were out. The immediate thought was turn it into a digital picture frame, but who wants to fiddle with SD cards? A slideshow of Google Photos sounded nice, but spending time collating photos felt like another version of SD cards.
I love the Google Arts & Culture new tab extension for Chrome and wanted that as a slideshow on my old tablet. Just new (to me) and interesting art randomly displayed around the clock. Something like the Samsung Frame, only for free.
So that’s when I decided to make my own.
Using only images in the public domain from The Art Institute of Chicago and The Met, I created a simple site that can be displayed on just about any old phone, tablet, or computer.
It’s all free and meant to give extra life to our old electronics.
Enjoy the art!
